Cogent Computer Systems, Inc., has been designing, manufacturing and delivering advanced embedded solutions since 1992. We originally produced SBC’s for software developers but as more and more functionality was integrated onto the CPU it became economically feasible to design and produce boards which could be used for both OEM use and software development.

The CSB3xx family was introduced in 2002 and was designed to provide a rugged, low cost SBC for development and embedded use.

The CSB6xx family was introduced in 2004 and was designed to compliment the offerings of the CSB3xx family, but in a smaller, more highly integrated size.

In 2007 the CSB7xx family was announced. Its main goal was to take advantage of the trend towards smaller CPU packages and the availability of the 200-Pin SODIMM standard. This allowed the CSB7xx family to support multiple CPU architectures in a single common footprint. This also allowed the leveraging of an extensive development environment with I/O adapters, LCD displays and more, for all members of the CSB7xx family, not just one or two.

Brought to market in 2010, the CSB17xx built on this concept of interchangeability using the high speed (5Ghz+) MXM family of connectors.  This allowed for support for PCI Express, SATA, GIGe, XAUI and more.  The CSB17xx family remains in production today.

Coming to market in 2013, the CSB18xx family of Com Express Modules conform to the various pinout and form factors defined in the COM Express Standard.  ARM as well as x86 will be supported.

New for 2014 will be the CSB16xx SMARC family conforming to the SMARC standard.   This standard is based on the High Speed MXM3 connector and is designed for deeply embedded, low power ARM and x86.

For all design projects, Cogent uses the latest in EDA technology from Altium as well as 3D mechanical design and integration using SolidWorks.  Cogent can export 3D STEP models to allow customers to test fit the module and carrier into their design without wasteful, time consuming re-spins.  Cogent can also import 3D models in various formats to insure proper fit of the PCB prior to manufacture or even design start.

Cogent proudly manufactures our modules, development boards and custom carriers in-house on our own SMT production facility here in Rhode Island, USA.  Cogent builds lead free, but also supports leaded techniques to support high reliability environments.  Cogent builds to the international standards IPC-610 Class 2 and Class 3.
